Set as a "period piece" the actors pretend they are the actors from the original film.
Nothing visually daring, tepid performances that read like a high school performance of Our Town.
See the 1970 original. Debbie Gibson looking better than she ever did damn. The Boys in the Band was an important cultural milestone in the history of the theater and film. This remake stays loyal to the original period but the cast of all openly gay actors create an interesting intensity and edge that I feel adds a new dimension to the original work.
Like many films taken from plays there is not a lot physical action but the actors handle the dialogue beautifully creating a great and compelling intensity.
